America is one of the most divided nations in the world. A 2021 survey found that out of 17 countries, America is the most divided. However, the church is a unique community where people of diverse backgrounds, cultures, languages, and ethnicities can unite around the life-giving gospel.
[27] For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. [28] There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (ESV)
Nathan and Hansoon both came to a deeper understanding of the gospel and their relationship with the Lord in college where they also felt called to pursue vocational ministry. Hansoon was born and raised in South Korea. They met in China where they were both serving as missionaries with Cru. They are excited to plant an intentionally multi-ethnic church that is unified around the gospel and focused on missional discipleship.
America is projected to be a “majority-minority” nation in 2045, where the different minority groups combined make up the majority of the population. Between now and 2060, 82% of the population growth will come from immigration and the children of immigrants. In addition, Northern Virginia has some of the highest Hindu and Muslim populations in the nation. There is a need for diverse churches where our increasingly diverse society can find unity in Jesus Christ. There is ample opportunity for a new church in the Dulles area of Northern Virginia to reach those who do not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
The area surrounding Dulles Airport in Northern Virginia is home to approximately 225,000 people. Of Fairfax County’s over 1 million residents, 31% were born outside of the United States and approximately 50% do not claim a religion. Only 9% of them consider themselves gospel-centered Christians. This area is already a “majority-minority.” There is ample opportunity to plant a new gospel-centered church in the area.
Church planting is a biblical means for spreading the Gospel. God loves the church and has ordained her to be the agent of redemption in the world. Since the early church, missionaries have started new congregations from which to share the Gospel to a desperate and hurting world. The Dulles area needs more gospel-centered church that will help Northern Virginian residents find satisfaction in their Creator rather than in the pursuits of this world.
Church planting is strategic. New church are far more likely to forge connections in a local community through new ministries, which provide a platform to share the Gospel and impact the culture. Statistics show that people accept Christ far more often in new church plants. We believe that a new church in the Dulles area could make an eternal difference in people’s lives.
Nathan and Hansoon trust that the Lord has called them to this new work of establishing a church in the Dulles area. They are prayerfully asking the Lord to graciously provide for this new work through individuals and churches who want to partner with us in this gospel mission by supporting it (1) in prayer and (2) financially (2 Cor. 8:1-15)
They have been affirmed in pursuing this church planting mission by the Presbyterian Church in America’s Mission to North America (MNA) and overseen by the Potomac Presbytery and Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Arlington, VA.
Would you please consider partnering with us? You can financially support us through the MNA’s website.
